How to Maintain Healthy Aligners
Since they don’t contain any metal wires or brackets, Invisalign aligners are much easier to take care of than traditional braces. They’re also easily removable for unmatched convenience.
Though Invisalign makes it easy for you, it’s still essential that you follow instructions carefully when it comes to caring for your aligners. Explore our guide to maintaining your aligners for a healthy and beautiful smile.
Eating with braces presents a serious challenge, preventing you from enjoying certain foods and often leading to crumbs stuck in your wires. This isn’t the case with Invisalign, as you can remove your aligners before meals and eat all your favorite foods without concern. Best of all, you can avoid the hassle of trying to remove debris from delicate wires.
In order for your treatment to succeed, you’ll need to wear your aligners for 20 to 22 hours per day. This gives you up to four hours every day to comfortably enjoy your meals without impacting your treatment.
Unlike traditional braces, you have total freedom to eat and drink whatever you want. Just make sure to remove your aligners first and brush your teeth before putting them back in. This will ensure food particles and other bacteria don’t get trapped underneath your trays.
Cleaning Your Aligners
The key to cleaning your aligners is rinsing and brushing them gently every day. For optimal results, remove your trays every night before bed and every morning when you wake up. Using cold water and a gentle, clear liquid soap, carefully scrub your aligners with a toothbrush. Don’t use hard soaps, denture cleaners, or any products with abrasive ingredients.
We also recommend using the Invisalign Cleaning System. This involves placing your aligners in a case that you fill with warm water before adding customized cleaning crystals. Gently shake the container for 20 seconds to activate the crystals, then let your aligners soak for 15 minutes. To complete the process, gently shake for another 20 seconds and and rinse your aligners with warm water.
